One thing to note regarding Jets and Alts who take over after the other teacher has left is that a lot of what you'll find in your apartment will be "inherited" from what the other teacher has either bought, found in the trash, or "inherited" from someone else - as this video attests to. Hand-be-downs definitely help with containing start-up costs. Savvy teachers might want to jump on the internet and look for "sayonara sales" to help in furnishing their apartments on the cheap.

Often in these sayonara sale ads you will find pretty good stuff for free. Yup, you read that right. The reason for this is pretty simple the cost of shipping the item back to their native country far outweighs the actual value of the item itself - especially considering that your fresh out of school grad doesn't have so much money and so (if they are buying something new) usually lean towards the Ikea stuff because it is so cheap.

So usually in this case, all you have to pay for is the shipping. Sagawa shipping and Kuro Neko are two of the cheapest shipping companies. These of course are for shipping needs inside of Japan. If you want things from your home country of course the obvious choice is Amazon.
